Yes you read correctly and we are not talking World Cup 2022 – we are talking World SBK and Team Murley are there this weekend! Alex is competing in World SSP on his Honda CBR600RR for GEMAR Team Lorini!
Yes, that’s right – Alex will return to the World Superbike paddock at Portimao in Portugal this weekend where he will make his WorldSSP debut with GEMAR Team Lorini.
He will ride for the Italian based squad in all remaining rounds of this year’s FIM Supersport World Championship.
As it is not possible to race with his customary #18, Alex will race a CBR 600cc Honda with the number 12 when he takes to the track in Portimao.
Alex was s regular top ten runner in WorldSSP300 last year and he is now relishing the opportunity to learn from the World’s best as he opens the next chapter of his racing career.
Following the signing of the documents Alex Murley made the following comments “After such a difficult year I am so grateful for the opportunity to join GEMAR Team Lorini Honda for the rest of the World Supersport season. I have been working hard to ensure I am fully fit and in the best shape I can be for my first race in Portimao. I know how fast the guys in World Supersport are and I am not expecting it to be easy. The goal is to improve each session and close the gap to the front with one eye on 2019, as for sure a full season next year is something I am focused on. I can’t wait to get back out on track and want to thank Redfern Stevens, Bell Helmets, Mass Leathers, Gaerne and everyone else who has supported me in some way for keeping me on the grid”
Further updates on Alex’s progress will appear all weekend.
Alex’s website which is packed full off great information is here
With several front running performances under his belt last year, Alex’s target this time around is to fight for the podium at every race.
It’s been a long winter but the #18 is ready for Motorland Aragon in a fortnight and is confident that the additional preparation both on and off track compared to twelve months ago will pay off when the lights go out to signal the start of the season on Sunday.
Alex Murley – Team Toth Yamaha: “I’ve had a really good off season and I’ve worked realy hard to improve my riding and fitness to be as ready as I can be for the first round at Aragon. We tested at Valencia and tried a lot of new things all of which was positive. I also re-located to Spain during the winter to get as much seat time as possible and I think it’s fair to say we are as ready as we can be. I can’t wait to go racing again, it’s been too long since the last race and I can’t wait to get going. We did a lot of work at the Aragon test, and we were quicker than we were in last year’s race so things are looking good but we know we have to keep pushing. A big thanks before the season starts to all my sponsors and supporters especially Bell Helmets, Gaerne, Mugen Race, Redfern Stevens and of course my mum and dad.”
There are still several sponsorship opportunities available for the 2018 and Alex encourages those interested in being part of his season to get in touch via his website
